Rescue & Rehabilitation of Human Trafficking Survivors

Rescue. Restore. Rebuild.

Berojgar Mahila Sewa Samiti (BMSS) is dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating women and children trapped in human trafficking networks across India. As a committed rescue and rehabilitation NGO, we work at the ground level to identify victims, provide immediate protection, and help them rebuild their lives with dignity and independence.

From exploitation to empowerment – we rebuild lives.

The Crisis of Human Trafficking in India

Human trafficking remains one of the most pressing human rights challenges in India. Thousands of women and children are trafficked every year for forced labor, sexual exploitation, domestic servitude, and other forms of abuse. Behind every statistic is a human story – often marked by deception, coercion, and violence.

The root causes are deeply interconnected. Poverty pushes families into vulnerable situations. Lack of education limits awareness and opportunity. Social inequality and gender discrimination further increase the risk, especially for women and young girls. Traffickers exploit these gaps, targeting those with the least protection and the fewest resources.

For victims, escape is rarely simple. Many are isolated, threatened, and stripped of their identity. Even when rescued, the journey to recovery is long and complex.

Without proper support, survivors face stigma, psychological trauma, and economic hardship, making reintegration into society a major challenge. This is where organizations like BMSS step in – as a trusted human trafficking NGO in India, working not just to rescue, but to restore lives.

Our Intervention Strategy

BMSS follows a structured, survivor-centered approach that addresses every stage of the rescue and rehabilitation process. Our interventions are designed to ensure safety, healing, and long-term independence.

  • Rescue Operations: We collaborate with local authorities and law enforcement agencies to identify and safely rescue victims from trafficking situations.
  • Safe Shelter & Immediate Care: Survivors are provided with secure shelter, nutritious food, clothing, and urgent medical attention to stabilize their condition.
  • Counselling & Trauma Support: Professional counselling services help survivors cope with emotional and psychological trauma, enabling them to begin the healing process.
  • Legal Assistance: BMSS supports survivors in accessing justice by providing legal guidance and assistance throughout their cases.
  • Skill Development & Livelihood Training: We equip survivors with practical skills such as tailoring, handicrafts, and basic digital literacy to help them achieve financial independence.
  • Reintegration into Society: Our team works closely with survivors to reintegrate them into their communities or support them in building new, independent lives in safe environments.

This holistic model ensures that survivors are not just rescued – but empowered to move forward with confidence and dignity.

Our Anti-Trafficking Initiative: JAGRUTI

JAGRUTI is a flagship anti-trafficking initiative by Berojgar Mahila Sewa Samiti (BMSS), focused on combating human trafficking and supporting survivors of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC).

Through JAGRUTI, BMSS implements a comprehensive approach that includes rescue operations, rehabilitation, prevention, and community awareness. The initiative actively engages with local authorities, communities, and stakeholders to address trafficking at its roots.

Key areas of work under JAGRUTI include:

  • Rescue and rehabilitation of trafficking survivors, with a focus on cases involving sexual exploitation
  • Prevention through community awareness and outreach programs
  • Advocacy and sensitisation of key stakeholders
  • Socio-economic reintegration of survivors through livelihood support

Our Impact at a Glance

Over the past four decades, BMSS has built a sustained grassroots presence in combating human trafficking through consistent, on-ground interventions:
  • 3,500+ women and children rescued from trafficking and exploitation
  • 1,200+ survivors rehabilitated through structured, long-term care programs
  • 2,100+ individuals trained in livelihood skills for sustainable independence
  • 500+ legal cases supported, enabling survivors to access justice
  • Multiple high-risk communities reached through ongoing awareness and prevention initiatives

Each number represents more than an outcome – it reflects a life supported through a complex journey of recovery. Many survivors require months or even years of rehabilitation, including counselling, legal aid, and livelihood support.

As a committed rescue and rehabilitation NGO, BMSS continues to expand its reach, focusing on long-term impact, survivor dignity, and sustainable reintegration into society.

Supported by CRS & ECPAT International

This initiative is supported by Catholic Relief Services (CRS), ECPAT International, and Equations, whose contributions have been instrumental in strengthening BMSS’s rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Through this support, we have expanded our operations, improved shelter facilities, and provided comprehensive care to survivors.

We deeply value this partnership, which reflects a shared commitment to protecting human rights and restoring dignity to those affected by trafficking. Together, we are working towards a future where no individual is forced into exploitation.

Be the Reason Someone Finds Freedom

Voices of Courage: Survivor Experiences

I never thought I would see freedom again. Every day felt like a dead end. When BMSS rescued me, I was scared and broken. But they gave me a safe place, helped me heal, and taught me skills to stand on my own. Today, I earn with dignity and live without fear.

I had lost my identity and my confidence. I didn’t believe life could change. BMSS didn’t just rescue me – they believed in me when I couldn’t believe in myself. Now I am learning, working, and slowly rebuilding my life. I finally feel like I matter.
